Children’s Programs

The theme for 2022-2023 is Salvation. Children will be hearing and experiencing stories about Joseph, Jonah, Lydia, Priscilla, the Lost Parables, and the Lord’s Supper. We will also have a month of learning how to pray and centering ourselves so that we may be able to hear God’s voice in our lives. And we’ll experience the Christmas story in December and the Easter story in the spring.

Sunday School classes will meet upstairs in the Oasis classroom at 9:30 a.m. every week beginning on Rally Day Sunday, which is September 11, 2022. This year we are utilizing the Remind app to help get updates to families like what activities we may be doing that Sunday or if we cancel classes due to inclement weather, etc. Please follow the link https://www.remind.com/join/dkc378 or text @dkc378 to the number 81010. You’ll receive a welcome text from Remind. If you have trouble with 81010, you can try texting @dkc378 to (240) 297-4477.

Each year a different mission is selected to be the recipient of the children’s offering that is taken each Sunday School class.  This year our gifts will be going to T.A.I.L.S., a nonprofit animal shelter on Grosse Ile.  More information on how we will support them throughout the year and a possible field trip to the shelter will be coming to families soon. In the meantime, we will collect a small offering each Sunday morning at the beginning of Sunday school.

Family Fun Events are being planned for the year ahead. Please keep the following dates free for some fun! More information will follow before each event.  Everyone is welcome to all events!

  • October 29 – Trunk or Treat
  • December 18 – Christmas Party
  • February 12 – Valentine’s Party
  • April 16 – Spring Carnival
  • TBA – Field Trip to T.A.I.L.S. Animal Shelter

The Children’s Nurture committee is always looking for new people to help plan our fun events and meaningful Sunday School classes. We currently meet on Zoom on the second Monday evening of each month. Please get in touch with Grace Morton (gmorton@gipc.org) or Lyndsey Williams (lyndseyjambeau@yahoo.com) for the link to join our crew.
