Deacon's Care Ministry

Deacons are ordained officers of the church who provide spiritual comfort and other assistance to members of the congregation.  The Deacon's Care Ministry include the following.

Home Communion:

Scheduling and helping to take the sacrament of communion to those in need who could not make it to church.

Special Concerns:

Looking after members of the congregation who may need special attention and love (someone who may have lost a loved one, may have health issues) to know that their church family cares for and is there for them.

Helping Hands:

Scheduling and providing meals or rides to appointments for our Special Concerns who need additional assistance and care.

Memorial Receptions:

Providing receptions after memorial services to help the family and friends during their difficult time and to allow them to share memories and celebrate the life of their loved one.

Flowers and Cards:

Provide fresh flowers, which graced the Sanctuary for the weekend, and cards each week for those in the congregation who may have a joy or concern.

Shepherding:

Checking in on our church family who has missed several weeks of service to offer help or just a "thinking of you" call.

Older Adult Ministry

Welcome to the York Connection, where the focus is on older adults. We plan programs and activities around the interests and needs of those in the "third thirty" years of their lives.

Our monthly afternoon movie (with free popcorn), weekly yoga classes, and afternoon table games are regular activities, along with Tips For Seniors on the web page.

Special programs have covered safe driving, home safety, and documenting our life stories and information.

Coney Boys and Lunch Ladies are weekly lunch groups for men and women, respectively . . . no strings, no dues, no obligations . . . just good conversation and fellowship. Also, we enjoy an occasional outing to a movie or live performance, art lecture, community tour, or pool party.

As we’ve discovered, the "third thirty" is a busy and interesting time. While we program for older adults, we love having all ages join us.

Contact Kathleen Rankin at kathyr67@sbcglobal.net for more information. For current programs and events, click on This Week @ GIPC and York Connection

Game Day:

Play Canasta, Euchre, Mexican Train Dominos and Mahjong. Tables will also be available for other activities. Come for games on Wednesday and stay for the Wednesday Evening Church Family Dinner.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing life needs and circumstances.  To learn more, click on link, Stephen Ministry.

One-to-One Care:

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who are trained to walk alongside others who need Christian help.  They provide an on-going and dependable source of comfort and encouragement through times of stress, change, pain, grief and brokenness; or anytime when you need someone to listen, to care, to pray, and to support.

Prayer Team:

Our prayer team of Stephen Ministers prays for any bringing burdens or joys.  Fill out a pew prayer request, insert it in a pew envelope and place it in the offering plate.  All requests are held in strict confidence.  Verbal prayer requests from each worship service are also recorded and prayed for by Stephen Ministers.  No prayer request is too big or too small.

Grief Ministry

Each individual grieves in his or her own way. Every loss is different in some way, but grief often shares common characteristics of leaving people feeling isolated by feelings of sadness and loss. Through Grief Ministry and support groups, individuals can find validation and feel like they are not alone. Contact our pastor for grief support.
